A. Two Hand Set and Return
Reinforcers – use fingertips, bend elbows, extend when making contact; stay on toes, bend knees, extend knees and body to the ball
The students will hit a ball:
Related Activities
1. Balloon Volley – The student will attempt to continuously hit a balloon in the air without letting it touch the ground.
Progressions – (1) with a partner; (2) over a net
2. Sticky Marshmallows – The students will form a circle by lying on their stomachs. The group must try to keep a ball in the middle of the circle by passing with their arms.
3. Nuke ‘Em – The students will hit different types of balls over the net for a period of time. When time is called, the students will count the number of balls on their side.
4. Catch, Toss, and Hit – The students will catch a ball when it is hit to them. Then, they must toss the ball in the air and hit it over the net.
5. Beach Volleyball – The students will hit a beach ball over a net with a partner.
Progressions – (1) smaller beach balls (2) small sided game; (3) use regulation volleyball
6. Group Juggle – In a circle, the class will attempt to keep a ball from touching the ground.
Progressions – (1) smaller balls; (2) create a hitting order; (3) multiple balls
B. Game Related Skills:
The students will practice the following volleyball skills:
a. serving
b. setting
c. bumping
d. spiking
Related Activities
1. Hula Hoop Serve – Hula hoops should be placed on the opposite side of the net from the server. The server will attempt to properly hit the ball into one of the hula hoops.
2. Bump It Up – In pairs, students will take turns practicing a proper bump.
Progressions – (1) continuous bumping; (2) over the net
3. Spike Assembly – The students will stand next to one another in the front row. One student will toss the ball. The next student will set the ball. Finally, one student will hit the ball over the net. If there is only two participants, then one person will hit the ball in the air and their partner will hit it over.
