News from Mrs. Lowe

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to my classroom and The Sister Georgine School (SGS).  My name is Julie Lowe and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2008-2009 school year.  I have taught at SGS for 21 years.  I have been a teacher for 26 years. My classroom educates the students who are ages 16 to 21.  It has been a pleasure to know and/or teach most of these young adults since they were very young.

The Young Adult class has a variety of activities and responsibilities.  They work on their Reading, Writing, Spelling and Mathematics each week.  As they are older teens, they are also educated in the various life skills that are so important for independent living.  These skills include cooking, cleaning, laundry, money management, meal planning, list making, and grocery shopping.  Their school responsibilities include shopping, cooking and cleaning up after the school lunch program.  The students also work on job skills that include filling out applications, working in various volunteer experiences outside of our building, and for some, paid work experiences.

My students enjoy the challenge of academics, jobs and personal growth.  They have friends and enjoy the socialization that comes with group experiences, work experiences and the community efforts that they put into their years at school.  As always, we welcome back the students that we know and we invite new students to join in the caring, productive school that is SGS.
